Best Buy British - The Free Directory for British made branded products

Hello, thank you for taking interest in the Campaign.

The website is progressing fast and changing on a daily basis but everything is being handled by me in my spare time so please be patient if change is not as quick as you would like.

My main task at the moment is to collect names of branded products and research the companies that produce them. If you can assist by suggested a really good British brand, then I would be grateful.  [Adrian]

Aims and Objectives of the Best Buy British Campaign

BBB aims to:

Promote British made products, particularly those manufactured by British owned companies.
Provide a resource of branded products for consumers via a free online directory exclusively devoted to products made in Britain.
Encourage all companies to clearly state country of manufacture on product labelling and packaging so that consumers can make a fully considered purchase.
Encourage elimination of the assumption by consumers and the press to that “nothing is made in Britain anymore.” British manufacturing will be shown in a positive and up-beat way in all published material.
Celebrate British ingenuity, creativity, heritage and skills by publishing articles and newsletters.

The Best Buy British Campaign is a not-for-profit project run and financed by me. Where possible, contributions towards running costs associated with website hosting, bandwidth, research and advertising will be off-set by fees paid by companies taking a full-page advert on the website. The commitment to fully present a company’s presence on the site is not contingent upon any company taking such a page.

Visitors to the website are encouraged to:

Consider the country of manufacture while making a purchase decision
Suggest branded products that could be included in the directory
Appreciate that we are all individually responsible for the health of the nation’s economy and the subsequent well-being of our fellow citizens.

A couple of things that Best Buy British isn't:

Politically motivated.
Anti-Foreign. In fact I am not really anti anything, just pro a few things.[Adrian]
Suggesting that buying British should be at the expense of other buying criteria. Poor quality and poor service should never be rewarded.

There comes a time in everyone's life when you just feel you HAVE to do something about a situation that displeases you. Well, this is MY time!  It must be an age thing

The final straw came when I tried to buy some new business shirts. As usual, I prefer to buy British so visited a long established shirtmaker with a particularly long history of shirt making.
To my dismay, upon enquiring, every ready-to-wear shirt was made in the Far East! (not that I have anything at all against the Far East, I am just not as pro-Far East as I am pro-British).
My immediate reaction was one of sadness. Can they not see that they are cutting off the supply of money to the very people that they rely on to buy their products?

We can turn that argument around and ask - can consumers not see that if they consistently buy foreign made goods with no thought as to where the money is going, they are restricting the purchasing power of the customers of their own business or the business that they work for?

Enough of the doom and gloom, let's look at the other side of the coin.

In whatever field you care to mention, British skills and British brains are at the leading edge of industry and commerce worldwide. We may only be a small island but we have the skills, we have the creativity, right here on our doorstep. The Best Buy British website attempts to bring these attributes to the forefront of the consumer's mind so they can make a fully informed purchase, be it British made or not.

If we each choose well, and we each buy well then we will all live well.

[Adrian]
